Art Travel to Rome

Program Details

Come feast on the riches of Rome for three weeks this summer! This course will focus on the rich artistic history that the “Eternal City” has to offer us. We will spend our days visiting the Roman, Renaissance, and Baroque masterpieces housed within the city, discussing the historical contexts of the works of art while right in front of them. See the smoothness of the marble of Michelangelo’s Pietà in person and wonder at the vastness of the Colosseum. Note how Bernini masterfully sculpts marble to look like human flesh and behold the illusionistic wonders of Baroque painted church ceilings. All of this, of course, while taking breaks to eat gelato and taste the local cuisine. You’ll have a few days off yourself to escape the city and explore on your own- whether it be the beaches of Ostia or the art of Florence. You’ll return home with a deeper appreciation for the art historical and cultural sides of Rome.
